LONDON POST-CRUISE SPECIAL EXCURSION
Monday, June 14 – Wednesday, June 16
Monday, June 14
Chartwell: Churchill’s Country Home
After disembarkation, we will board our private motor coaches for the ride to Chartwell, Churchill’s country home from 1924 until his death in 1965. The rooms are as they were in Churchill’s lifetime, and evoke his career and wide interests, from politics and soldiering to writing, painting, and gardening.

The beautiful terraced gardens contain the lakes Sir Winston created, and include the water garden where he fed his fish. There is also Lady Churchill’s rose garden and the Golden Rose Walk, so-called because it was a golden wedding anniversary gift from their children. Many of Sir Winston’s paintings are on display in the garden studio.

Lunch with Celia Sandys
Following the tour of Chartwell, we will have lunch at Chiddingstone Castle, which was built in the 1500s. Celia Sandys, granddaughter of Sir Winston Churchill, will speak about her grandfather.
Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park
After lunch, we will enjoy a scenic drive to London and our group hotel, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, which offers fine views of the park and easy access to the shops of Knightsbridge.

Enjoy the evening and dinner on your own.
Tuesday, June 15
The Tower of London
After a group breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for a private tour of the Royal Palace and Fortress of London. Built by William the Conqueror in 1067, the Tower has served as royal palace, fortress, prison, execution site, and home of the Crown Jewels.
City Tour of London
En route to lunch, enjoy a panoramic tour of the center of London. Landmarks viewed will include Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and Big Ben.

Buckingham Palace
Both the office and London residence of the Queen, Buckingham Palace is one of the few working royal palaces in the world today. Originally built as a country house in 1705 by the Duke of Buckingham, it was later purchased by King George III in 1761.
Big Ben
One of London’s most famous landmarks, the Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster – constructed between 1843 and 1858 – is more affectionately known by the name of its bell: Big Ben.

Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture. Work on the Abbey began in 1042 when the Saxon king, Edward the Confessor, ascended the throne. The original building was completed in 1065, and King Edward (later St. Edward) was buried in it just ten days later.

Pub Lunch at
the Historic Anchor Inn
It was from this pub that Samuel Pepys witnessed the awesome destruction of the Great Fire of London in 1666. A riverside terrace offers unrivalled views of the city of London across the Thames.

St. Paul’s Cathedral
A cathedral dedicated to St. Paul was first constructed in 604 AD. The current cathedral is the fourth to occupy this site and was designed by the court architect Sir Christopher Wren. It was built between 1675 and 1710 after its predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of London.

Farewell Dinner at the
Reform Club
Bid farewell to friends old and new during an elegant dinner at this private members-only club where Winston Churchill was once a member. Designed by Charles Barry, the Italian palazzo-inspired clubhouse is as splendid today as it was when it opened in 1841. Hillsdale College President Larry P. Arnn will deliver remarks after dinner.
